Ingredients
Instructions
- Toast the sourdough bread slices until golden brown.
- Wash and dry all produce. Finely dice half the celery (use all if making 4 servings). Finely chop half the dill pickle (use all for 4 servings). Trim and discard the root end from the lettuce; separate the leaves. Reserve one whole leaf per sandwich, then chop the remaining lettuce into bite-size pieces.
- Open and drain the tuna, squeezing out any excess liquid.
- In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, diced celery, mayonnaise, a big pinch of salt, pepper and as much chopped pickle as you like. Mix well.
- In a large bowl, toss together the chopped lettuce, honey Dijon dressing, a drizzle of olive oil and salt and pepper to taste.
- On a cutting board, spread the tuna mixture evenly onto half of the toasted bread slices. Top each with a reserved lettuce leaf and the remaining bread slices. Cut each sandwich in half diagonally.
- Divide the sandwiches between plates and serve with the honey Dijon salad on the side.
Recipe Tips
For extra crunch, add more diced celery or pickle to the tuna mixture.
If you prefer a less tangy dressing, use half the honey Dijon and add a little extra olive oil.
Make the tuna salad ahead and refrigerate for up to a day; assemble sandwiches just before serving.
FAQ
Can I use a different type of bread?
Absolutely! While sourdough adds a nice tang, whole wheat, rye or even a crusty roll work well.
How should I store leftovers?
Store the tuna salad and dressing separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. Assemble sandwiches and dress the salad just before eating to keep everything fresh.
Can I substitute the honey Dijon dressing?
Yes, you can use a simple vinaigrette of olive oil, vinegar and a touch of honey and mustard or any store-bought dressing you like.
